Create Ambient drones with Paul Stretch
I just wanted to post this blog as I’ve discovered a fantastic new free plugin called Paul Stretch that will stretch a sound by up to 10,000 times it’s original length! No that wasn’t a typo!
This can be an amazing tool to create evolving ambient sounds and unique drones and pads. Looking to take that tiny vocal part and stretch it out? It’s a piece of cake with this tool. You’ll be amazed what you can create by just randomly throwing a little soundbyte in the program!
Now just so you are aware, this is a stand alone program and doesn’t work from within Ableton or any other DAW program. You basically import the sound, stretch it and tweak it til you are happy with it, then export your new sound. From there you can bring it into your recording program. It appears there is a MAC and a PC version. Thus far I have only tried the PC version.
Here is a little info in the program:

I follow your blog for quite a long time and must tell you that your posts are always valuable to readers.
Hi there, thanks so much for recommending Paul Stretch ! Right in the first moments I opened an MP3 file of a guitar loop and it sounds awesome, like eerie electric cello or synth, it’s going to be fun using them as backing tracks for projects, all the best !
I can always rely on you to give valuable information. Thank you very much for existing!
Very cool! Iv’e been listening to a lot of ambient music and this is probably all that a lot of those people do. Drag any old track into this and tweak away. Even if you don’t tweak it’s very cool but you can. I dragged an ABBA song into there the other night and was mesmerized for hours. Wish you could drag and drop files into it as it was a bit difficult to load a file into it but I’m not complaining. Very cool. Thanks for the share.
