TouchAble 2.o for Ableton Live coming soon!
For Ableton users who haven’t got the funds for Push but own an iPad. You’re in for a great surprise. Even if you DO own Push, you’ll probably want to check this out.
I’ve been using TouchAble version 1 for a while now and have found it to be the best iPad app for Ableton available. I still love using hardware controllers as well, but TouchAble is able to do things you would never be able to do on hardware. I’ve used it to control ableton in live performances to great effect. It was a very well thought out program.
That said, TouchAble 2.0 is going to blow your mind! It’s been completed redone from the ground up and gives you the ability to do just about anything you can think of (and some things you can’t think of).
Push or TouchAble 2.0
TouchAble is going to be a lot like having Ableton Push on your iPad (works on all versions), but with extra features not possible on Push.
Another great thing is that you won’t have to upgrade to Ableton 9.
(works on Ableton 8 & up, standard, suite & intro)
Lemur like functions to edit or build your own template
An iPad is much easier to travel with than Push.
All that said, I don’t plan to give up my Push anytime soon. Where Push is plug & play, TouchAble needs a wireless signal & needs to communicate with your Laptop. This is fine in the studio, but setting up for a live gig will take a bit longer & there is always the risk of a wireless glitch. In version 1, I found this to be a bit tricky at times & made set up times take longer. From what I am hearing, version 2.0 will have easier wireless integration. I look forward to that.
If I can be more confident with the wireless integration, I’ll likely use it at gigs & keep my Push in my studio.
Last I checked, the app was running $25. I would assume the price will stay pretty close to the same & it’ll be free for current TouchAble users. Keep an eye out for this release in the new few days.
