Ableton Live 9 wish list feature for DJ’s
(Open letter to Ableton)
With Ableton Live 9 gearing up for a release date announcement, I am seriously excited about the new features as well as the new hardware controller “Push“.
Even with this said, there are always features we wish for that might not take priority is the official updates. I think that is understandable, considering that Ableton doesn’t want the program to get completely bloated. I’ve had an idea that would solve an issue that myself and many others have with DJing in Ableton.
Being someone who has DJ’d with Ableton in many different setting over the year, there was always one advantage I felt programs like Traktor & Serato had over Ableton. That is when it comes to drastically switching tempos & genre’s.
If you want this capability, you either need to turn off the warping on the next song, thus losing beatmatching in the future, or doing an obvious & abrupt shift in tempo of the playing track to match up with the next song. This can make Ableton largely unworkable for multi tempo/genre sets, which is really a shame considering how amazingly flexible this program is otherwise.
In the following video, I introduce what I think would be a clever solution to Ableton enthusiasts having to reach outside the program to accomplish certain things when DJing.
I’d love your comments as well as some of your own wishlist features. We certainly can’t expect these to be immediately integrated, but I do know that Ableton listen & take suggestions seriously when working on updates.
Happy music making,
