How to save audio clip effect settings
I was recently asked if it is possible to save all of your effects and effect settings with an audio clip. Basically this would allow you to have all of your settings back anytime you dragged this clip into a new Ableton project. This can be good for DJ’s who have certain effects and EQ settings associated with certain songs as well as the obvious benefit for producers.
Here is the short and simple way to accomplish this:
Drag in your audio or midi clip to it’s own track.
Drag in your eq. delay, phaser… whatever you want
Set your effects to taste
Rename your clip
Drag the clip into your browser in Ableton
Ableton will make a project folder with the renamed clip inside if it’s audio, or will create a clip icon if it’s midi. Pull that clip into a new track and all your effect settings will come with it. Have fun,
Jason
Thank for posting this, Jason.
For those that are not familiar with this, Ableton’s term for Clips saved by dragging them to the Ableton Browser)is Live Clips. There are many ways use Live Clips to ease workflow in Live.
A simple example: DJs can save and recall a track that has multiple Clips with different starting “cue” points via single Live Clip:
Make duplicates of a Clip, naming each one for the point in the track from which they may want to start or “Cue” the playing of the Clip (i.e. Intro, Bass Intro, Drum break, etc).
Set the starting point for each clip accordingly.
Select all of the Clips and drop the lot of them on the Live browser and give it a meaningful name.
Now you can now easily recall the track, with all of it’s related “cue” Clips at once by dragging the single Live Clip into the Session view.
Awesome J !
You keep rockin’ with passion and consistency !
thanks so much ! cheers, ‘T’
Thanks Jason, great stuff
God Bless
Hi, couple of questions:
-does this mean I cannot edit clips in a track for my editing does it for all the clips in the track?
-this is the only way to keep the effects i put to a clip?
-how can i put effects to a clip without doing that to all other clips in the track?
thanks,
Seb
